about

The pieces on this album are all free improvisations. Octif samples and transforms O'Rorke's percussion in real time while O'Rorke listens and interacts. As O'Rorke's responses to the transformations of his own playing are themselves transformed, patterns emerge. The result is far from monotonous: O'Rorke and Octif constantly challenge and shift the current pattern using new textures; in Octif's case, material cached from earlier in the session is thrown back into the mix.

In these recordings O'Rorke played a wide variety of percussion instruments, including gongs, bells, drums, blocks and scrapers. Octif used AudioMulch, a sound transformation program designed for interactive performance.
